The End of US Energy Dominance? (June 2, 2025)

 

Saudi Arabia is playing President Trump for the fool he is. “King Trump’s” American “energy dominance” died over a twenty-four-hour period beginning late May 30, 2025, and ending on May 31. The end began when Trump announced he would double tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in a May 30 speech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It finished a few hours later when, following their May 31 video conference, eight OPEC+ members declared they would increase production again.

The timing of Trump’s announcement—on May 30, originally called “Decoration Day” after the US Civil War and now “Memorial Day” to commemorate those who fell in war—was perfect. “Requiescat in pace” American energy dominance.
