Inside the Oil Silo: China's Economic Stall Ignored (September 16, 2024)

Those following oil stayed deep in their silo during the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (APPEC) conference in Singapore last week. Within it, individuals like ConocoPhillips’ chief economist Helen Currie touted positive prospects for oil:

“In the short term, the focus is on how China will go through the demand slowdown. There’s some negativity around that. And on the supply side, it’s the OPEC spare capacity. But for the long term our view remains fairly constructive.”[i]

Currie’s views matched those of other APPEC speakers. From inside the oil silo, the conference participants see no downside, hear of no downside, and speak of no downside.
