This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

Not with a bang but a whimper.

 

These last four lines of T.S. Elliott’s 1925 poem “The Hollow Men” often come to mind as one observes global events. OPEC+’s decision to “voluntarily” cut production by another million barrels per day made us think of it again. The once-powerful group of key exporting countries has evolved from OPEC’s “restrictive commodity agreement” that influenced oil prices to OPEC+’s loose association of nations interested in petroleum.
