Repeating History: Granholm's Threat to Limit Exports (August 29, 2022)

The Biden administration frequently gets compared to the Carter administration, a practice Democrats fiercely protest. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, though, has just replicated the actions of James Schlesinger, President Carter’s first energy secretary, by asking major refiners to reduce petroleum product exports and redirect those supplies to the US Northeast.

 

There is a major difference, however, between Granholm and Schlesinger. The latter knew the oil industry. Secretary Granholm, on the other hand, has spent her time in office focused on global warming, ignoring the oil industry and making no effort to understand it. Indeed, she is as uninformed about it as James Edwards, the former dentist who served as Ronald Reagan’s first energy secretary. At least Edwards knew how to drill and fill.
