Oil Markets in 2019 and 2020: No Feasible Solution? (February 4, 2019)

 

Economists, engineers, and executives seek to optimize. Often a linear program is the mathematical tool they use in the effort. Given a set of assumptions, the model will seek the combination of inputs that produces a set of outputs that achieve the user’s goal. However, everyone or almost everyone who has ever used the tool knows that occasionally the computer spits out this response: NO FEASIBLE SOLUTION. It is beginning to appear that the global oil market confronts such an outcome.
