Shifting Perspectives: Lessons from theTransition (Energy Intelligence, April 2, 2024)

"The American philosopher and humorist Mark Twain once opined, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” Those words echoed across the halls in Houston during the recent CERAWeek by S&P Global conference, as oil and gas industry executives celebrated the serious, potentially insurmountable obstacles slowing much of the energy transition effort. However, history shows that transitions that have broad momentum do not die, but rather metamorphose, often becoming stronger, especially when backed by advancing technologies. Those celebrating the difficulties the transition is encountering should recall that in 1910, the reports of Mark Twain’s death were accurate."
