A Venezuelan Disruption: Possible Impacts (July 24, 2017)

 

The Trump administration may impose sanctions on Venezuela if President Maduro holds elections for a constituent assembly to rewrite the country’s constitution. Banning US imports of Venezuelan crude is one restriction being considered, along with financial sanctions and the cutoff of critical diluent product exports from the US to Venezuela.The end result might be a quick, sharp price increase for crude oil and for products. This report analyzes the potential impacts on the domestic and global oil industry of US sanctions on Venezuela.
