Dr. Verleger made this presentation at IAEE North American Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as part of a panel discussion on "Shale and the Future of World Oil." The panel examined "how the advent of shale oil is likely to impact OPEC's strategic role in the world oil market," as well as implications for long-term price trends, market structure, and international trade patterns and prospects for and the potential significance of North American self-sufficiency in petroleum. He shared the panel with Marianne Kah, chief economist of ConocoPhillips, and Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources.
