The Tar Sands Road to China: The Long Tortured Route from Alberta to Dalian (February 2011)

TransCanada Corporation would like to build a crude oil pipeline from the wellhead in Hardisty, Alberta, to the port of Houston. The pipeline would be the first leg of the Tar Sands Road, the crude oil equivalent of the ancient Silk Road in Asia. If completed, this road would allow Canadian crude to reach China and, in the process, turn the US Gulf Coast into the world’s most profitable refining center.
