Oil markets no longer threaten the US economy. Indeed, a rise in oil prices of ten, twenty, or thirty percent would in the long run probably spur additional growth here. Although this conclusion will surprise many, higher oil prices would likely be good for this country. This marks an amazing reversal of the nation's prospects, an about face many have not recognized. The United States is today, at the least, immune from the economic effects of higher oil prices and could benefit from them for several reasons.
