Stuck in a Time Warp (September 12, 2016)

 

Do male oil market analysts wear top hats, starched shirts, and waistcoats to work in 2016? Do female analysts put on tight corsets, bustle dresses, and high-button shoes? Must the latter be accompanied by chaperones? Of course not! However, the minds of most following the market today seem mired in the Victorian era when such garb was popular. Put another way, those involved in the market, even oil traders, are caught in a time warp. More importantly, the “current” thinking of market participants and observers may condemn oil producers to years more of low prices if it convinces paper traders that prices will not rise.
