Confusion Reigns (January 25, 2016)

 

There have been wilder weeks in world oil markets but not many. Upward price movements were driven by commercial and speculative buying and selling. The increase did not, however, mark a fundamental change in the price trend. Prices will continue on a downward trend until someone cuts production. Still, in the short term prices may rise as optimists hoping for a reversal buy futures, lift prices, and provide a means for those producing oil to squirrel away more stocks while a few producers hedge additional cash flow.
